Welcome
to our Sweet Shop
History and nostalgia are to be found at the Oldest Sweet Shop
In England. The aroma of chocolate and traditional sweets fills
the air on entering through the ginger bread door with its tinkling
bell. Established in 1827, this family run business is in one of
the earliest buildings in the high street of Pateley Bridge set
in the magnificent Nidderdale countryside.
This
small stone building with its dark heavy oak beams and low ceilings
has shelves which almost groan with the weight of the heavy glass
jars filled with old fashioned sweets of yesteryear including Humbugs,
Butterscotch Gums, Liquorice Allsorts, Midget Gems, Liquorice Sticks,
Aniseed Balls, Wine Gums, Sugared Almonds, the Mint and jelly bean
selection, the list seems endless with over 200 Jars on display.
The
chocolate counter tempts with its display of Truffles, Belgian Chocolate, Fudge,
Caramel, Turkish Delight and Nougat.
Children are open eyed and open mouthed when they see the display of traditional
sweets including Fruit Salad, Blackjacks, Lollipops, Dolly Mixture, Bubblegum,
Millions and the Bon Bon range.
The Shop specialises in Sugar Free Sweets including gums, boiled sweets and
diabetic chocolate.
In an era when retail outlets on high streets appear to be almost identical
wherever they in the country the Oldest Sweet Shop In England retains that unique
character missing from today’s shops. The internet/mail order business
is operated from our shop stock being prepared on the premises and not in some
warehouse or other facility. The quality of confectionery and the service provided
is guaranteed backed by the knowledge and expertise built up over the years.
